Bridges’ Career Day Not Enough as Boomers Walk to Walk-Off Win
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Aug. 7, 2026) - Despite Trey Bridges putting together the best performance of his professional career, including his first career home run and a late single that helped force a 6-6 tie, four walks by Chris Barraza in the bottom of the ninth resulted in a 7-6 walk-off victory for the Schaumburg Boomers (41-35) over the Mississippi Mud Monsters (30-45) Friday evening.
Monster Notes
Bridges delivered the biggest day of his professional career, but Schaumburg rallied late.
- Trey Bridges hit his first professional home run and later singled in the ninth to help tie the game.
- Brian Williams struck out six across 5.2 innings while allowing three runs on four hits.
- Karell Paz went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice.
- Travis Holt doubled, walked and drove in a run.
- Mississippi led 4-0 before Schaumburg scored six unanswered runs and walked it off in the ninth.
Williams Gets the Ball
The right-hander looked to rebound against Schaumburg.
Coming off his shortest start of the year against these same Schaumburg Boomers at Trustmark Park this past Saturday, the Mud Monsters sent Brian Williams to the mound.
The right-hander allowed six runs on nine hits and four walks through 4.0 innings in the fifth game of the six-game set.
Looking to rebound Friday evening, Williams allowed a one-out walk before striking out Anthony Calarco swinging for the second out and inducing an inning-ending groundout to toss a scoreless first.
The Mud Monsters were retired in order in their first two offensive opportunities by Schaumburg starter Ross Thompson.
Bridges Goes Deep
The hometown kid hit his first professional home run.
In the top of the third, Bridges led off the frame with his first professional home run, taking a 1-1 offering from Thompson and blasting it the opposite way over the left-center field wall for a solo shot and a 1-0 Mud Monsters lead.
Fourth-Inning Hit Parade
Mississippi opened a four-run lead before Schaumburg answered.
After Williams tossed another scoreless frame, the Mud Monsters bats started a fourth-inning hit parade.
Consecutive base hits by Tevis Payne II and AJ Fritz to lead off the inning were followed by back-to-back RBI singles from Karell Paz and Samil De La Rosa to stretch the lead to 3-0 Mississippi.
Travis Holt followed with a double to plate Paz, and the Mud Monsters extended their advantage to 4-0 before an out was recorded.
Boomers Chip Away
Schaumburg hit solo home runs in the fourth and fifth.
Schaumburg answered with its first run of the evening in the bottom half of the inning when Banks Tolley hit a solo home run to cut Mississippi’s lead to 4-1.
After the Mud Monsters went scoreless in the top of the fifth, Schaumburg once again picked up a two-out run on a solo home run, this time off the bat of Alex Calarco, to make it 4-2 headed to the sixth.
Langrell Enters
The bullpen limited Schaumburg to one run in the sixth.
After Thompson retired Mississippi’s offense on five pitches, Williams went back to work for the home half of the inning.
Anthony Calarco started things with a one-out single.
Williams then picked up his sixth strikeout of the day on Tolley before issuing a two-out walk to Kellum Clark.
Jay Pecci went to the bullpen and brought in Connor Langrell in relief.
Langrell entered with both inherited runners charged to Williams, and the first pitch he threw was doubled into left field by Kyle Fitzgerald to score Anthony Calarco and make it a one-run game at 4-3.
Langrell followed by striking out Will Prater on three pitches to limit the damage to one run.
The book closed on Williams, who finished his start going 5.2 innings while allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six Boomers.
Traffic on the Bases
Langrell kept Mississippi in front in the seventh.
Langrell remained on the hill in the bottom of the seventh and navigated traffic on the basepaths after hitting both Alex Calarco and Christian Fedko to put two men aboard.
Alec Craig followed by dropping a sacrifice bunt down the third-base side to move both runners into scoring position.
Langrell responded with a clutch strikeout of Cole Smith for out number two before inducing a groundout that Joshua Shelly made a swift play on to end the inning.
Schaumburg Flips It
Alex Calarco’s second homer of the night put the Boomers in front.
The Mud Monsters picked up a baserunner against Schaumburg reliever Holland Townes in the top of the eighth after Payne II was hit by a pitch with two outs, but Mississippi was once again held scoreless.
Dallas Woolfolk entered against his former team and struck out the first batter he faced before issuing walks to Clark and Fitzgerald.
Woolfolk picked up the second out of the inning on a flyout to center field before Alex Calarco launched his second home run of the evening, a three-run shot to put the Boomers in front 6-4.
Bridges Answers Again
Mississippi tied the game in the top of the ninth.
With the entire game flipped on its head, the Boomers sent Aaron Glickstein to the mound in the top of the ninth for the save opportunity.
During Paz’s leadoff at-bat, Pecci was ejected after arguing with home plate umpire Bryce Aubart.
Paz followed by collecting his second hit of the day to give Mississippi late life.
Holt drew a walk to put the tying runs aboard before Vantrel Reed entered as a pinch-hitter.
Down two runs and down to their final outs, Bridges answered the bell.
The Jackson, Mississippi native slapped a single the opposite way to score Paz and cut the deficit to 6-5.
The throw back in from Schaumburg left fielder Clark, attempting to catch Reed advancing to third, got away from third baseman Fedko. With nobody covering home, Reed dashed to the plate and scored the tying run to make it 6-6.
Boomers Walk It Off
Four ninth-inning walks brought home the winning run.
Barraza took the mound in the bottom of the ninth looking to force extra innings.
Facing the top of the Boomers order, Barraza loaded the bases on three consecutive walks before Tolley grounded a ball to Shelly, who fired home for the forceout and the first out of the inning.
Barraza then walked Clark to force home the winning run for a 7-6 walk off in favor of Schaumburg.
